As Harlan opened his eyes sometime later, he discovered he was wrapped in silver chains along with all of the men, their alpha, the alpha’s mate and Regret. Even though the chains hurt, as they rubbed raw spots into their skin, the beta was glad the alpha’s mate and Regret weren’t wolves. As the chains were poisonous to them, they moved as little as possible. They sat in the middle of the compound trying to ignore their own pain, as virtually all of the men had been shot. With heavily armed hunters walking slowly around them, there was nothing they could do.

“My men all have silver bullets in their weapons, so I’d advise you not to try to escape, even if you could.” Oakes laughed, and it was an ugly sound that came from his throat.

A man with a fancy rifle ran up to the one in charge, complaining about getting a wolf trophy. He said he couldn’t very well mount a man on his wall back home.

“You didn’t say anything about them being men. What the hell is this Oakes?” the man whined as he waved his rifle around.

The leader pushed the business end of the rifle away from him, as the idiot didn’t even know how to hold it, and then spoke.

“Would you like to join them?” Oakes bellowed, as he slapped the whiney man, taking his rifle as he walked away.

The man turned red with anger and embarrassment, but walked away.

“We’re gonna get a good price for all of them,” Harlan heard their leader say to one of his men. He wondered what the hell happened. Then sadly, he got his answer. The perimeter guards lay in a pile.

As Mason came around, he appeared extremely groggy from the darts, but tried to shift.

Stanley spoke to his mate softly. “Don’t Mace. None of us can survive if you get yourself killed.”

The big alpha nodded, closed his eyes, slipping back into unconsciousness. Stanley sat quietly, trying to sooth his sleeping mate. Then he thought of something.

“Where are all the females?” he whispered.

“I don’t know. No one’s seen them. They’re probably off guarding the cubs,” his beta whispered back.

As the night wore on, the men listened to various conversations, relaying them back to Harlan as both the alpha and Alan were out cold. The warriors listened, overhearing the leader of the hunters talking to someone on his cell.

“Yes sir, as near as I tell we got all the men. Never knew what hit ’em.” He chuckled, slowly walking around the compound. “We’re still a few females short and the kids scattered, but we’ll find them. No, shouldn’t take too long to locate ’em. Look, I know what you want. You’ll get your test subjects when I get my money. See you tomorrow.”

An hour later, Harlan heard noise. He raised his eyes, seeing the mated females of the pack bringing out dinner.

“It’s about time.” Oakes snorted, as he waved one of the women over who held a plate of food in her hand.
